The position will be responsible for overall development, coordination, and implementation of the Saddle Lake Eagle Healing Lodge and Mental Health Programs, ensuring optimal development and Holistic wellbeing of our nation. The Mental Health and Wellness Coordinator provides leadership and expertise in substance misuse prevention, addictions, and mental health, as well as lead community engagement and planning efforts. Supporting the implementation and management of programs, associated projects, and assisting with overall improvements to mental health and wellness.
Responsibilities will include leading system-level implementation and evaluation of a mental wellness strategy including substance misuse, addictions, overdose response, harm reduction outreach and opioid-related issues.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop a mental wellness model specific for the Saddle Lake Cree Nation
• Strong cultural background and/or cultural knowledge to incorporate Saddle Lake Cree Nations’ traditional practices, ceremonies and land-based teachings within the development of the mental wellness model
• Collaborate and liaise with outside agencies, Saddle Lake partners, schools and workplaces to develop policies to create supportive environments for positive mental health, reduce and prevent substance misuse, and improve access to harm reduction services
• Research and develop proposals
• Manage and coordinate the Saddle Lake Wellness Programs at Eagle Healing Lodge and ensure that staff are providing mental health support programs for clientele – which fall into three categories; preventative, interventive and post/aftercare.
• Lead and support development and evaluation of local drug strategy including overdose response, harm reduction outreach and opioid -related issues
• Assess and identify organizational training and development needs related to mental health in consultation with program managers and heath director
• Conduct population health assessments related to mental health and addictions, harm reduction and overdose response
• Ensure that all Eagle Healing Lodge Staff maintain ethical conduct in relation to their clients
• Ensure all health administrative processes are adhered to
• Evaluate the effectiveness and compatibility of programming, staffing and outcomes
• Maintain current knowledge of effective interventions for mental health and addictions
• Communicate assessments, surveillance and evaluation information to program staff and management for use in setting team priorities, program planning, and resource allocation
• Interpret current scientific knowledge
• Write technical reports
• Develop reporting processes/database to include statistical information, program effectiveness, First Nations & cultural involvement, and relevant intervention strategy
• Research mental health issues in response to Saddle Lake Cree Nation’s crisis and concerns
• Shall attend meetings as required
• Coordinate Mental Wellness Programs with relevant services of agencies
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum formal education: 4-year Degree in Mental Health and Addictions, Health Promotion, Health Science, Applied Social Science or equivalent with emphasis on program planning and policy development. Masters Degree considered an asset
• Certificate or proven experience in population health planning and strategy development, facilitating skills
• Strong Leadership and Organizational skills
• Strong financial background
• Related Experience (3-5 years) in Management
• Demonstrated ability to work within a web-based or similar platform for the purpose of sharing information and tracking program metrics
• Strong written and verbal communications skills with a proven ability to synthesize complex information into a wide range of products such as reports, infographics, presentations, etc. for dissemination to internal and external parties
• Strong computer and data presentation skills with in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office (advanced knowledge of Excel), PowerPoint and Google and other web-based applications
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and relationship building skills to develop and maintain partnerships and collaborations with program team members and various health and band programs.

• Be drug and alcohol free for a minimum of 5 years.

About the Position
