Tan'si,
I thank the Creator for this life and all its blessings. My given name is Keesha Wahsatnow. I am a proud member of Saddle Lake Cree Nation. My education journey began when I stepped into the doors of my first school. I enjoyed learning, reading and writing. Many of my teachers made me feel special and honoured the gifts I brought to the class. In my heart, I knew that was what I wanted to do when I grew up. I didn't believe in myself right away. I wasn't sure if a rez kid could become a successful teacher. Blue Quills taught me about colonization, and it opened my eyes to truth. The University of Alberta taught me how to be a teacher. I taught at Ashmont School for 4 years and had the most amazing time, especially in drama class. I have a huge heart for Drama and the Arts. I believe that Drama can help our youth gain confidence, voice and creative expression. I wish for there to be Drama programs in every First Nation School. I now work at the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program at the University of Alberta. I walk alongside the 1st year students and help them navigate the institution. I am an ATEP Aunty. When I was in ATEP I had a couple of amazing aunties that really helped me complete the program. I am also a sessional instructor and am currently teaching my first University course. I am very thankful for this journey and hope to continue making Education better for our youth.
hiy hiy
